January 2015 in the H household

We got back from our trip to DC and found out our heater was broken.

Bummer of the century.

It got down to 51 degrees in our apartment, and when it's 10 degrees outside, that's pretty frigid.  I found out I get extremely grumpy when I don't have heat.

We also all got sick for pretty close to the entire month.  Boo! Poor Mr. H...I'm grumpy when he's sick, and I'm grumpy when I'm sick...he just can't catch a break. :)

Mr. H started up his classes again.

C and I discovered "Tune Train", which is a super fun music class offered by our city.  We love it!

We also survived our first snow storms in Boston....little did we know that there would be much more to come!

The blizzard "Juno" hit us hard... I finally figured out where the phrase "frosted window panes" came from...ha!  It was fun to be snowed in together.  Mr. H got some snow days and we enjoyed being stuck inside.

Mr. H has still been biking in the snow... poor guy!

C's first snowman!  Celebrating our first snowfall in Boston!!!!

Riding our bike in the basement!

Aftermath of Juno....C wasn't too thrilled.

Being snowed in...loved having Mr. H around!  C also LOVES helping to cook...

Emergency preparedness....

And then the snow just kept coming....

Poor Mr. H had to do all of the shoveling... He's amazing!

First Day of School + C isms

Mr. H started grad school this week....so exciting!!!

He gets to ride his bike along the Charles, which is really nice...but we were not expecting how hot it was going to be!  He gets a little sweaty...but he's enjoying all the good exercise!!!

Our first day of school pictures:

C wanted his first day picture too. :)

C has been so darling lately.

I've been trying to teach C who my brother S is on his mission.  We were going through family pictures, and I pointed to his picture and asked C who it was. "Jesus" he replied without any further thought.

He loves playing duplos and filling up his cars with pretend gas. We were eating spaghetti one night and he started using the noodles as the gas line to fill up his cars.

He loves watching all the home movies lately, and calls them "C" movies.  So cute!!!

Life lately

So I realized I was really slacking on the past couple of weeks.
Mr. H teases me that I never blog unless we are doing something fun.
Which is kind of true.
However, I have been the happiest girl these past two weeks.
Mr. H and I have been getting back into our routine.
We have set our family goals, and we are trying our hardest to accomplish them.
We have been doing a lot of laughing together.
We got to go to the temple last weekend.
We got to get some GOURMANDISE. Which is the best.
We've played some checkers...in which Mr. H finally looked up the rules and they are WAY different than I grew up playing, so now I lose instead of win.
We've played basketball at the church.
I've set a goal to do ten jumping jacks whenever I start to get bothered/annoyed, and it has been hilarious.
Mr. H is working away and getting ready to go to his conference at HARVARD.  I'm a little jealous.
C dropped his 2nd nap.  I am having to learn how to get things done with him awake, and so that he feels like he's getting enough attention.
I scored a free bookcase from the dumpster, that now houses all my books.
C finally likes brushing his teeth!
 I started doing 'weekly' goals.
C discovered all of his outdoor toys again.

Life is good.

LAST first day of school as an UNDERGRADUATE!
C is loving the red hat from Christmas.  He feels pretty hard core in it.

When he saw the real basketball hoop, he had to give it a try.

Until he realized it was impossible---and he needed mom's help.

Discovering all of his old toys from the Summer!!!

His cute friend loves to push him on the swings.

Labor Day

Long weekends are always very appreciated in our house.  Mr. H had a lot to do, but we still were able to pack in some fun things. One of the highlights of the weekend was a morning hike we took up emigration canyon.  Emigration canyon is the spot where the Mormon pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847.   It was so beautiful up there!  The leaves were starting to change colors, and the weather was perfect.  C loves being in the hiking back pack and was a good sport.  The hike was about 3.5 miles round trip, and the destination was an old abandoned mine you had to look really close for.  It was a little creepy, but really cool to see.

Beautiful Wasatch Range
Salt Lake Valley
Happy Hiker!
Mr. H in front of the mine---you really had to look!

It was funny-as soon as we found the mine, all the old videos they showed me in elementary school on mine safety flooded back.  My teachers should be proud as I remembered all the safety procedures. ha.

School starting has been difficult for me to adjust to.  Mr. H has so much to do, and it is hard to not have him around to play with as much.  But C is doing great, and we are spending a lot of time outside enjoying the last moments of summer.

A Tribute to First Day of School!!!!

When Mr. H and I got married, I had two semesters left of school.  I did summer school at the BYU extension in Salt Lake, and then commuted to Provo for the next semester.  I was so excited to be done and finish.  But how I miss it now!  I get so excited for everyone starting, and seeing campus fill up and the groceries store getting busier-it's a great time of year.  For maybe even the first time of my life, I'm even a little excited for football season to start, now because I think school functions are a party. :)
Anyway, Mr. H and I started dating and got engaged his very first semester here the the U.  He's now in the last stretch, with only a year to go.  I've loved seeing his journey-I've always known he was smart, but I am constantly amazed at how well he continues to do.  He's quite an amazing guy, balancing school, work and a family at such a young age.
Here is his first day of school tribute!!!
*ha, I'm always much more excited for these pictures than him. :)

*I'm missing the first day of summer school pic :(
